Last week Josh's truck started being cantankerous again. The muffler fell off while he was driving and he couldn't get it to stay reattached, so off it went to the garage. We were expecting to pick it up yesterday afternoon but as it got closer and closer to 4pm when the garage closed, we were getting a little worried, especially since we had company arriving at 4. At 10-of, Josh took my car and drove to the garage hoping to pay for the repair so we could just pick it up later. He ended up coming home with bad news. Apparently the entire exhaust system of the truck is rusted and they're having an awful time fixing it. The truck is old and we've already put a lot of repair money into it this year, so we definitely don't want to pay to replace the catalytic converter and all the rest of the exhaust system. On top of that, the truck runs horribly in the cold and it's horrific in the snow. With all that in mind, it looks like we'll be getting a new (to us!) car in the near future.
We went to look at one used car today and instead test drove two brand new fords (a focus and a fiesta which Josh really loved...it had heated seats and rainbow mood lights). We're absolutely not going to buy a new car and the used one we wanted to see had already sold. Car shopping is quite the experience though. I wanted to laugh at the salesman for how hard he was trying to sell that Fiesta! Right now we're just hoping the repair guys can manage to work something cheap out so we can keep the truck running for a few more weeks so we can shop at a more leisurely pace. We just keep reminding ourselves that even though this throws a huge wrench in our budget, we'll be getting a newer, more reliable, car out of the deal.
